Have you ever stared at a blank page?
You know you should be blogging, but you don’t know what to write. Maybe you already churned out a few posts that didn’t seem to do anything. Blog content with a purpose is more powerful than publishing content for content’s sake.
I always encourage organizations to build a content strategy. However, you need to start somewhere and that starts with writing blog content. Coming up with a topic is tough, so here’s a step-by-step process to come up with multiple topics to get your content rocking!
Here are 5 tips for coming up with a blog topic. Download the worksheet to get started!
1) Write Down 5 FAQs
Do your customers ask the same questions? Brainstorm some questions or concerns you’ve heard over and over. Shoot for at least 5. More are better!
2) Write Down 3-4 Company/Sales Goals
What are some company or sales goals you have coming up that this content could focus on? Write down 3-5 specific goals you want your content to help achieve. Example: Increase sales of product X.
3) 20-60 Minutes of Search Engine & Social Media Research
What other content in your industry is on the first page of Google? What’s trending on social media. Perform relevant search engine & social research by searching for your topics or hashtags. Don’t really use hashtags (yet)? Try searching for your industry's influencers by typing in relevant phrases.
4) Brainstorm 10 Keywords
Brainstorm a list of 10 keywords you want to incorporate into your blog post. Think about what you want your blog post to rank for and write down those keywords. Example: product X then include keywords about product X.
5) Write Down 5 Topics
Now the fun part! You’ve done your research and now it’s time to brainstorm. Using the information from steps 1-4 write down 5 (or more) blog topics.
After following these 5 steps, you’re on your way to creating a list of blog topics that you can use!
